Cet homme est Serge Klarsfeld, et le film « Le combat de Serge Klarsfeld » raconte son action. Cette action, véritable bataille pour la mémoire, a duré trente ans.
Trente ans de campagnes de presse, de manifestations, de chasse aux criminels nazis allemands et français, de recherches historiques dans des archives mal exploitées jusque-là. Trente ans pour faire mûrir une question tabou en France : la responsabilité du régime de Vichy dans les crimes nazis.

L’action des Klarsfeld – Serge et Béate – modifie notre vision de l’Histoire de France. Pour la première fois, un documentaire révèle, témoins et documents à l’appui, la responsabilité du régime de Vichy dans les crimes nazis. Plusieurs témoins contribuent à éclairer cette page sombre de notre histoire : Robert Badinter, ancien ministre, ancien président du Conseil constitutionnel, Marc Domingo, avocat général, Léon Schwarzenberg, professeur de médecine, Mesdames Blumen et Zinicki, rescapées des rafles françaises de 1942, Anette Zaïdman, secrétaire de l’Association des Fils et Filles des Déportés Juifs de France, et Arno Klarsfeld, avocat partie civile dans le procès Touvier et le procès Papon.

From investigating Nazi crimes to French responsability
Serge Klarsfeld’s Fight is a documentary about the personal history of a lawyer, historian and activist whose painstaking efforts and research have helped identify war criminals and bring them to trial for thirty years.
Three decades to break a taboo in France : the Vichy regime’s responsability in Nazi crimes. What really went on during the German occupation of France? The search for an answer to that question is what led to the idea of a film about Serge Klarsfeld. It seemed that everything had been said about the genocide and Nazi crimes, Vichy and the Resistance.
And then it became clear that one stone had been carefully left unturned : the exact degree of French responsability for anti-Jewish persecution. Serge Klarsfeld agreed to talk about his activities in detail. The Barbie, Bousquet and Papon trials and the first trials of Nazi criminals in Germany in the 1970s did not come about by accident.

The determination of Serge and Béate Klarsfeld was behind all of them. Several witnesses helped shed light on this tragic chapter in French history: Robert Badinter, senator and former minister of Justice, Marc Domingo, lawyer, Léon Schwartzenberg, medical school professor, Mrs Blumen and Mrs Zinicki, survivors of French round-ups in 1942, Annette Zaïdman, secretary-general of the organizatiion « Fils et Filles des déportés juifs de France » (« Sons and Daughters of Jewish Deportees of France »), and Marcel Eskénazi, vice-president of the conservatory of the Musée de Drancy – where trains left for the death camps.
